MOF1228 “Sumner”

Purchased from Kathy Bielick (Misty Oaks Farm in Wooster, Ohio) in 2012, MOF1228 was our first truly parasite resistant ram. His dam’s line brought high prolificacy and especially strong lamb survival. His lambs were noticeably more vigorous than others, often aggressively searching for their first drink before they could stand. His maternal great granddam, MOF4001, was arguably one of the strongest maternal Katahdin ewes of all time. His sire’s side brought exceptional parasite resistance plus growth. He left his mark on both flocks over 5 breeding seasons at Waldoview and 2 seasons at Charmingfare. He was consistently in the top 10 Elite sires and near the top leaders for maternal traits. Of all Katahdin Sires in NSIP, he’s in the top 1% for both number born (NLB) and lamb survival (NLW), top 5 % for postweaning parasite resistance (PFEC) and top 2% for weaning weight (WWT). He’s an outstanding sire and influenced the direction of our flocks more than any other ram to date.  In 2017, he was exported to Dr. Lynn Tait of Bentley, Alberta, Canada.
